    Report Wind Energy Projects at Capacity

    Wind Energy topic of growth continue to be reported.  The energy discourse for capacity is at critical measurement to gain more advocates for alternatives. SNL Energy Report: Wind Led Completed Power Projects by Capacity in 2012 reported Green Energy News

    "There were 430 power projects completed in 2012, totaling 29,335 MW, according to SNL Energy data. Solar topped the list for the number of projects completed during the year, with 175, and wind came in second, with 136 projects. By capacity, wind led the list, with nearly 13,000 MW, or 44 percent of the total capacity completed."

    "Total capacity added in 2012 was significantly greater than the 20,436 MW added in 2011, according to SNL Energy data. The total capacity completed in 2012 represented nearly $73 billion in estimated construction costs, based on details available on specific projects."

    "According to SNL Energy data, 12,953 MW of wind capacity was completed in 2012, blowing away previous records and, for the first time, accounting for more generation capacity than any other technology. This gush of wind capacity came as the industry raced to complete projects ahead of the scheduled expiration of the production tax credit at the end of 2012, which has since been extended."

    If wind is at capacity the road ahead is steep and in decline. Wind energy in areas of greatest functionality if at capacity will reduce manufacturing, green jobs, growth and energy views for next steps toward advocacy. Wind news needs evaluation to determine the conversation for energy development.


    Technology Giants Search and Enable Smart Grid

    The outstanding future is what lay ahead and the current plan to arrive. The energy and technology path is developing uniquely as convergence of demand meets requirement in the quest for energy efficacy and infrastructural soundness.  Requirements for continuous energy are the subject of “Google, Yahoo getting their own smart grid” raised by Sustainable Business Oregon looks at the future of company commanding energy solutions and extension of Google Energy.

    Regional development think tank Joint Venture Silicon Valley certainly has, and is now launching a public-private partnership with Google, Yahoo, Intuit and Juniper Networks, among others, to develop a smart energy grid centered around Moffett Field.

    Under the initiative, an 8.25 square-mile zone that encompasses parts of North Mountain View and North Sunnyvale will become a shared testing ground for cutting edge cleantech solutions. Both of the peninsula cities and utilities providers in their jurisdiction will also participate.

    “We’re trying to do two things,” Joint Venture President & CEO Russell Hancock told the Silicon Valley Business Journal. “First, we’re trying to reduce Silicon Valley’s carbon footprint. The second is we’re trying to promote Silicon Valley as the answer to this problem.”

    Elements of the smart energy zone that Joint Venture hopes to have up and running by 2020 include renewable energy sources like solar, fuel cells and biogas, plus thermal and electric energy storage.

    Together with electric car charging stations and analytics to ensure efficient energy usage, Hancock describes the future system as “maybe the world’s most integrated example of a smart grid.”

    The power of business to combine resources to integrate solutions for energy efficiency and enabling renewable clean sustainability is the future that will drive economic and energy development for today and the future. The analytics and continued planning to produce energy and environment solutions will increase return-on-investment for business, community and stakeholders. The "smart grid" is not just the road and/or systems enabling energy but an intelligence and knowledge management for harnessing information and building an ecosystem.


    Sustainability Leadership for 2013

    As we come to the end of the year. The predictions on sustainability are mixed but moving forward. The importance is to establish a measurable sustainable plan for implementation and not brand association for 2013.

    The Guardian reported "2013: a year to fight for scale in advancing sustainability" offered, "We are awash with scale, but largely of the wrong kind. The World Bank says if the global community fails to act on climate change we are on track for a 4C temperature rise this century, while Unicef reports that 22,000 children under five die each day. And although we have halved global poverty since 1990, China has delivered the bulk of this success, while almost half of sub-Saharan Africa's population remains in extreme poverty. And while the news that Bloomberg New Energy Financeexpects 2012 cleantech investment to be around $250bn should be celebrated, this is small beer set against the need to invest upwards of $15tn in power generation by 2020."

    "Scaling is the aim for any self-respecting sustainabilitista. We spend a tonne of time building initiatives intended to go to scale, mostly with a bifocal interest in speed and leverage. Richard Branson's latest venture, the B Team, launched with Jochen Zeitz, director of French multinational PPR and former chairman of Puma, is dedicated to amplifying initiatives that can hit the high notes, joining the ranks of scale-ambition initiatives such as Bill Clinton's Clinton Global Initiative."

    "Speed-to-scale is the mantra of the Danish-led, Global Green Growth Forum, with its focus this year on mega-partnerships designed to scale, including the Water Resources Groupchaired by Nestlé's Peter Braback-Letmathe, UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon's Sustainable Energy for Allinitiative, and Qatar's Global Dry Land Alliance."

    Sustainability is global pursuit dynamic, organic and measurable. The plan to pursue sustainability is honorable and yet, has multiplicative effects to the organization, leadership, operations, stakeholders, supply chain and capital. The outlook is good for those who plan sustainably. The days of loss of focus on sustainability across all platforms is dead art form of operating. Imay boldly say, "go into today thinking and analyzing sustainably, planning and operating for sustainability".


    Big Data Education

    Big Data is not a term to demystify but qualify and quantify when managing information. The term symbolizes the storm of structured and unstructured data that we seek to manage on a daily basis. Bits reports "I.B.M. and Ohio State University to Open Center for Big Data".

    "The largest demand will be for analytics-adept business people, predicts Christine Poon, dean of the Max M. Fisher College of Business at Ohio State. “The future is going to be owned by people who are comfortable in the quant world but have deep business knowledge,” Ms. Poon said."

    This defined understanding led to Ohio State taking the Big Data plunge to educate and train for Big Data management.

    "I.B.M. is taking a step to address that problem in the American heartland by opening a new data analytics center in suburban Columbus, Ohio. I.B.M. says it plans to hire 500 analytics consultants and researchers for the center over the next three years. But the larger impact on the region’s work force will likely be college students who work on projects at the center, and a partnership between I.B.M. and Ohio State University to develop new course materials for technology and business, and arrange teaching stints by Big Data professionals."

    "In an interview, Michael Rhodin, an I.B.M. senior vice president, said the impetus for the new center began with the concerns of local clients, including Nationwide Insurance, Cardinal Health, Huntington Bank and The Limited. “They told us they were increasingly spending around business analytics and mathematics, and that those skills were hard to find."

    The pace in which we need to educate and train is tantamount to the energy professionals that are relevant today. The germination of intelligence when we think of sustainable plan comes before the explosion roughly 10-20 years before the boom. We are in the boom of information as I state to businesses all the time that we are in the intelligence age.  The management of Big Data is here to stay. The goal is to determine what kernels of information are necessary within the deluge of data from among the structured and unstructured data fall.


    Technology Producing Project Management Efficiencies

    Project management is critical process and structure to efficiency, resource optimization, planning, waste and cost reduction.  In the era of technology and efficiency how a project is managed, planned and rolled out is key to company growth and sustainability. The topic posed by Manufacturing Digital, "Driving efficiency with improved IT project management" suggested a technology that can drive PM.

    Tech Solution

    "By integrating structured IT solutions from Bestoutcome, Stadco has helped guarantee transparency and visibility across all IT projects, as well as raising productivity in the process Stadco is one of the UK’s biggest providers of automotive ‘body-in-white’ products and services and produces pressed steel and aluminum car parts and panels for Jaguar Land Rover, among others. It employs over 1,000 people in five locations across the country, though it has other operations all over the world."

    “In previous lives I have used a lot of the bigger project management tools,” said Chas. “The problem with many of them is that you spend all your time inputting information rather than managing the project. For example, having to fill out all the screens and then subsequently search for the data you want becomes very frustrating, as well as being very slow and backward looking.”

    The importance in managing data is key to organizational efficiency and effectiveness as Takt time is to manufacturing. Data today is was as kryptonite to Superman. What organizations can overlook is the rapid speed of data that is being produced internally that is relevant to the project. Further, the project is producing data that requires management. Organizations cannot be reduced to death by data. The use of technology and project managers that understand the complexities of PM can lead organizations on the road to success.
