Government Shutdown a Wake Up Call to Small Business

October 5, 2013

Tyra Oldham, ceo, LAND sds

The government shutdown is in its fifth day. The contraction of service  effects the supply chain of economy, social support and national public services. The shutdown big picture is the connectivity of small business to the government pipeline of contracts, support and intelligence.

The shutdown has placed all reports on hold that provide strategic data.

The contracts, funding and grants from the U.S. government are economic drivers for small business. The governments' SBIR, Darpa, grants programs and more are the platforms for small business development. The services that the government outsources to small developing businesses are fuel centers of many small businesses.

NBC reported, "How the ripple effects of the government shutdown might spread, day by day" and "Monday, Oct. 7: Sikorsky Aircraft of Connecticut, which sells helicopters to the Defense Department, says it will be forced to furlough 2,000 workers in Connecticut, Florida and Alabama."

"Friday, Oct. 11: United Technologies, a major defense contractor, says it will be forced to furlough 4,000 workers at two of its companies, Pratt & Whitney and UTC Aerospace Systems. Sikorsky says it will furlough 1,000 more."
"Saturday, Oct. 12: Football Saturday for the service academies: Army hosts Eastern Michigan, and Navy is at Duke. Those games are up in the air — but college football is such a moneymaker that private donors would probably step in. Private donations are covering the Oct. 5 games, and military officials say the NCAA, CBS Sports and United Airlines all offered to help."
Last, to understand the domino is "Tuesday, Oct. 15: The final deadline to file your 2012 tax return, provided you got an exemption for the regular April 15 deadline. "
The shutdown is not good for business but even worse for smaller concerns. Sustainability reveals that the ecosystem in which we work is based on robust activity on every level. When OEMs or Tier I's cease to grow or decide upon a pragmatic or conservative practices to operating, Tier II or III's contract and shrink. Moreover, when Tier II and III's evaporate there is collapse in innovation, jobs and businesses that feed the Tier I's.

Good business is great for everyone and the opposite hold true.

LAND sds Labor Day Message

September 2, 2013

Tyra Oldham, LAND sds

We at LAND sds want to wish all a Happy Labor Day. Today, labor is pushed for more time and often with less reward. We at LAND sds value the importance of labor and wish to acknowledge the hard work that people produce each day.

It is important that on this day you support a small business. Small businesses support, hire and retain labor.  When you hire a small business you strengthen the economy and help drive the supply chain. When we all contribute to business and support of labor the world is made sustainable and better.

Happy Labor Day to one and all.

LAND sds Energy Audit Process

LAND sds Energy Service Professionals

June 12, 2013

LAND sds audit's the energy consumption of selected buildings to determine which types of energy are used and the amount of each. Analyze which operations/processes consume extensive amounts of energy in each building.

LAND measures by which individual building(s) can conserve energy throughout the operations/processes.  Provide consultation to managers of buildings that were audited in an attempt to reduce the consumption of energy in their facility.  Provide a pathway to benchmark energy conservation methods that can be used in other buildings and facilities. LAND sds provides the following solutions:

  •  Identify the major construction, maintenance and design features that make building energy efficient.
  •  Perform energy audit of facilities, compare results to industry standards.
  •  Asess potential energy savings opportunities in each facility, including building envelope as well as mechanical and engineering systems based on energy audit results by means of a “walk-through audit.”
  • Inventory mechanical and electrical systems and their operating schedules.
  • Identify existing monitoring and metering equipment.
  • Interview facilities’ users about operating and comfort needs.

Our audits identify opportunities to maximize energy savings and financial benefits through energy conservation measures at the site and across supply chain.

The definition of energy conservation measure means an installation in, or a remodeling (retrofit) of, an existing building in order to reduce energy consumption and operating costs, pursuant to O.R.C. Section 156.01. The term includes the installation, modification and replacement of:

• Insulation in building structure and systems in the building;

• Storm windows and doors, multi-glazed windows and doors, and heat adsorbing or heat reflective glazed and coated window and door systems, as well as additional glazing, reductions in glass area, and other window and door system modifications that reduce energy consumption and operating costs;

• Automatic energy management systems;

• Heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems;

• Plumbing fixtures including commode changes to all bathrooms;

• Caulking and weather stripping;

• Lighting fixtures to increase energy efficiency of the building lighting system without changing the overall illumination of a building, unless an increase in illumination is necessary to conform to the applicable state or local building code for the proposed lighting system.

LAND sds is your energy and business solution for sustainability. Consider an one percent reduction in your energy can facilitate huge savings. Consider reducing your energy and inefficiencies across all platforms.

Tyra Oldham: The Role of Business Intelligence

Published May 20, 2013

By Dr. Tyra Oldham, LAND sds

As businesses search for new solutions when margins and cost management is a necessary factor under scrutiny. The answer lies in  efficiency, resource and vertical integration to leverage profit, productivity, efficiency and business growth.

The use of Business Intelligence (BI) is key to determining impact, risk, gaps, constraints, opportunities and innovation within departments, teams, systems, processes, platforms, programs and operations. BI can shape companies to new highs in an intelligence age where the management of knowledge is vital to sustainability. Think government purchasing which is online, dynamic, interactional with high capital (intellectual, economic and human) demands. Consider the importance of analytics in the capture of information for smooth and tactical decisions, as well as processes and systems are integral to technological interface. BI looks across these platform for effective strategies to success and connect the dots.

LAND sds views BI is critical and tactical to competitive advantage. LAND sds is a company's third party intelligence partner and source for growth, projects and programs to establish your next profit center to gain competitive leverage.

Contact us at land@landsds.com for your one hour presentation on BI significance to sustainability.
